From now through 2015, housing starts are unlikely to exceed last
year’s record 2.073 million single-family and multifamily units,
according to the long-term forecast just published by economists at
NAHB. However, starts won’t be too far from the record in at least a
couple of those years, and on average will exceed those of the previous

New-Home Sales Bounce Back In August
Sales of new single-family homes rose 4.1 percent in August to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 1.050 million units, following substantial downward revisions to the sales rate for the previous three months, according to figures released by the U.S. Commerce Department reported today. How do builders decide whether to use panelized house
systems? What factors come into play when a builder is contemplating
making a move to panelized construction? And for what reasons would
builders who are inclined to try a new building technology choose not
to use panelized construction? These are some of the questions asked in
this study conducted for the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban
Development's PATH (Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing)
program in an effort to understand how builders decide to use panel
systems.

NAHB produces the Housing Market Index (HMI), a weighted, seasonally adjusted statistic derived from ratings for present single-family sales, single-family sales in the next six months and buyers traffic. The first two components are measured on a scale of "good" "fair," and "poor," and the last one is measured on a scale of "high," "average," and "low."
A rating of 50 indicates that the number of positive or good responses received from the builders is about the same as the number of negative or poor responses. Ratings higher than 50 indicate more positive or good responses. For more insight, see additional details about the Housing Market Index.
